Our website is designed for people who would like to improve their language skills while learning about Hul’q’umi’num’ life and culture. Whether you are a language teacher or a language learner or even a complete stranger to our Coast Salish territory, we hope you will find something here that will interest and inform you.
We are grateful to our dedicated team of Elders, educators, and linguists. Some of us have been working together to document and analyze the Hul’q’umi’num’ language for over forty years. Others of us are just starting out our journey on become language experts.
We offer Simon Fraser University courses at a variety of levels of Hul’q’umi’num’ language and linguistics as well as other community events to showcase the language.
We have a variety of language lessons to help you improve your Hul’q’umi’num’, whether you are just starting out or are already quite fluent.
Thanks to support for our research, we currently doing research on several topics, including the language of canoe culture, Coast Salish weddings, and cultural knowledge on birds.
