SPRING MEETING DATES
• April – June: 12 hours/week for 9 weeks (2 days/evenings a week and Saturday)
Saturday classes 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (location VIU-Cowichan Campus Room 225)
* Last Saturday class of the spring is June 16th.
Please come to two Monday and/or Tuesday classes each week.
Monday class: 12:00 – 3:00 pm or 5:00 – 8:00
Tuesday class: 12:00 – 3:00 pm or 5:00 – 8:00
* Last Tuesday class is June 19th.
**The last week in June is “break” week. Time to catch up on homework and also get sorted out for the full-time schedule in the summer months.
SUMMER MEETING DATES
>First summer class Tuesday July 3rd.
• July and August: 6 hours/day for 30 days (Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 4 PM)
>Last summer class is Thursday August 23rd.
FALL MEETING DATES (TBA)
• September – December: 12 hours for 9 weeks (2 afternoon/evenings a week and Saturdays)
OVERVIEW
The program will consist of 400 hours of together time— speaking and using Hul’q’umi’num’—plus guided study of web materials and group & individual projects.
The goal is fluency and literacy in Hul’q’umi’num’ and participants will also learn technical and other skills needed for becoming a language/culture instructor, language researcher, and materials developer.
Participants will earn 30 units (=one year) of university credit, leading to an SFU Certificate in First Nations language proficiency. Upon completion, students can continue on with Diploma at SFU.
