Healing through language: Using childhood memories to create new Hul’q’umi’num’ stories.

It was an emotional presentation, as Penelakut language specialist Valerie Bob spoke about the challenges of her family life which led to the loss of her language. Valerie, a Ph.D. student at Simon Fraser University, spoke about the uplighting experience of using her artistic talents and linguistic training to bring to life a set of stories in Hul’q’umi’num’.

Valerie acknowledged the importance of spirtual training from her parents and said thank you to the Elders that helped her translate her stories into Hul’q’umi’num’.
